Bloom Newsletter · Issue 26/09

Hi, I'm Cess.

Business updates

I have a few announcements, because a lot has been happening between Bloom, happyblue and some new ideas that stopped being ideas and started turning into real things.

Bloom

The website is live and still growing

You can now subscribe to the newsletter, read articles and follow a little more closely what we think, what we're testing and what we learn working with brands.

How we work

We left Notion

We also made an important change in how we work with our clients: we left Notion.

Nothing personal, Notion.

We just wanted something more our own.

Now every Bloom client has their own portal to check progress, ask for changes, find files and keep everything a little less scattered across chats, links and folders with questionable names.

The idea is simple: if working with us can be more comfortable, that's part of the job too.

What's next

Narrative identity

Another topic we're going to talk about a lot more is narrative identity.

Because a brand doesn't just need to look good.

It also needs to know what to say, how to say it and which stories are worth repeating until people start recognizing them as their own.

That ends up showing in everything: social media, web, ads, presentations, campaigns, physical spaces, the shopping experience and even the way someone on your team explains what the brand does.

For us, designing a brand also means designing the way that brand tells its story.

And yes, we're going to dig a lot deeper into this.

Early Bird for the holiday set

happyblue has news this month too.

On October 5 we open the Early Bird for our holiday set.

And this year we want to show much more of what usually happens before a session.

The idea, the materials, the build, the tests, the changes, the things that go right and the ones that force us to improvise because clearly not everything works the first time.

The set's documentation starts now.

If you want to see how it all gets built from scratch, follow us on happyblue.

Learning to observe better

We're also introducing happyblue walks.

A way to learn by going out for a walk, camera in hand.

We hope to do our first walk in October in Monterrey.

It revolves around something we really love: learning to observe better.

Finding scenes, details, light, coincidences and small moments that are usually there, but we walk right past.

It's photography, yes. But it's also learning to see the city a little differently.

happyblue classes

Inside and outside the studio

And classes are coming too.

During the first half of October we'll hold our first free happyblue classes session.

After that there will be more sessions taught by us and by guest photographers, creatives, artists and teachers.

We want happyblue to also be a place to learn, share processes and meet people who make cool things.

We're just getting started.

/ Bloom · Labs

And finally: Bloom Labs

This part comes from all those conversations that start with something like:

  • •“hey, could we make a page that does this?”
  • •“can we automate that?”
  • •“can we have a tool so the client can do this on their own?”

The answer is often yes.

Bloom Labs exists to build web tools, internal platforms, automations, configurators, special pages and digital solutions made with code and design around a real need.

Not everything has to become “another website”.

Sometimes what your business needs is a small, specific, well-made tool.

So if you have an idea that's odd, very specific or that you don't even know how to explain yet, ask us.

We'll probably like it

One more thing

I'm not explaining this one yet.

I'll just leave this here:

Is the GRID CLUB ready?

That's all for now

October comes with several new things, better systems and enough projects to keep us entertained.

See you around.
